Voici the Valley Cultureway

This eighty mile cultural driving tour, shaped like a figure eight loop, brings you through the beautiful St. John River Valley and is broken into two individual driving tours, named the Down and Up River sections. The culture, history, and landscapes that you will experience on this drive are unlike anything else in the State of Maine. If you intend to complete the entire tour, you must travel between the United States and Canada and will need to be aware of new requirements for entering back into the US.

Down River
This section takes you along both sides of the St. John River between the US towns of Hamlin and Madawaska. The entire Down River tour is about 85 miles and to experience all that it has to offer, dedicating one to two days is recommended.

Up River
This section also takes you along both sides of the St. John River, and runs between the US towns of Frenchville and Allagash. The entire Up River tour is about 95 miles and to experience all that it has to offer, dedicating two days is recommended.
