The common loon is another species native to northern Maine that is a very popular attraction. Regarded by some as having almost mythical status, and by some scientists as a link to the dinosaurs of the past, loons conjure up a variety of emotions and images. One thing is for sure, the first time you're sitting next to a calm lake and you hear one of their yodels or tremolos, you'll never forget it.
