Drive through the Solar System

The Maine Solar System Model stretches from Presque Isle to Topsfield and includes the sun, nine planets, seven moons, and now three dwarf planets.

From Topsfield follow US Route 1 through the communities Danforth, Houlton, Littleton and Mars Hill to Presque Isle. Along the way take time to experience the to scale solar system model as well as some of the amazing architecture of Houlton's historic downtown or one of the many fine restaurants.

This 80 mile model runs from the sun at the University of Maine at Presque Isle past Pluto located in the Visitors Center located off I-95 in Houlton to the last of the three recently discovered dwarf planets in Topsfield.

The scale of the model is 1 mile equals the distance from earth to the sun.

Most of the planets are visible from the road and have pull outs to stop and explore the three dimensional models.

Once in Presque Isle take the time to visit the Northern Maine Museum of Science and Aroostook State Park.
