Loring Air Museum

Central Aroostook

131 Cupp Rd, Limestone, ME 04750

Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine was open from1953 until 1994. For over thirty years, Loring was a strategic air command base, which housed the 42nd Bomb Wing featuring the B-36 Peacemakers, then B-52 Stratofortresses, and KC-97, then KC-135 refueling wings as well as various Fighter /Interceptor wings. The adjoining Caribou Air Station, code named North River Depot and site Easy, held the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the United States, before Loring’s mission was converted to conventual munitions in the eighties.

The Loring Air Museum exists to share the history and stories of all the men and women who served, worked and lived on Loring and the Caribou Air Station/East Loring facility. We have artifacts, equipment, and memorabilia from the base, as well as photos and videos. All of these have been donated to the museum by various sources and form an immersive experience.

Inside of the Loring Air Museum is a collection of B52 bomber artifacts and the people who served in Limestone Maine.
The Loring Air Museum is home to the most complete collection of artifacts and memorabilia of the Loring Air Force Base.
