Explore Northern Maine’s legendary snowmobile trail network with a guided tour from Rustic Retreat Lodge. Snowmobiling here benefits from some of the highest snowfall totals in the country and connects to more than 4,000 miles of primary trail on Maine’s Interconnected Trail System (ITS), plus thousands of additional groomed miles. Riders of all experience levels — from novice to expert — will enjoy scenic routes and exciting destinations, including views from the Frenchville overlook, the historic Abandoned Steam Trains of the Allagash (“Ghost Trains”), Fort Kent’s First Mile, and the Ride the Board trail linking Maine to New Brunswick, Canada.
Tour Dates & Season
- Snowmobile tours typically run mid-December through April 1, depending on snow and trail conditions.
Half-Day Guided Tour
- Time: 8:30 am–12:30 pm or 12:30 pm–4:30 pm (meet 30 min before start)
- Guide: 1 guide on a snowmobile
- Price: $500 for up to 5 sleds
- Priced per guide and includes guiding only.
- Snowmobile rentals and all additional costs are not included.
- If your group exceeds 5 sleds, an additional guide will be added at extra cost.
Full-Day Guided Tour
- Time: 8:30 am–4:30 pm (meet 8:00 am)
- Guide: 1 guide on a snowmobile
- Price: $800 for up to 5 sleds
- Includes a customized tour based on group experience, plus a lunch stop (lunch cost is not included).
- Snowmobile rentals and all additional costs are not included.
- Additional guides added for groups over 5 sleds.
Specialty Ghost Train Trips
- Specialty trips to the Abandoned Steam Trains of the Allagash — an approx. 350 mile day — are available but not for inexperienced riders.
- Trail and weather conditions vary; there is no guarantee the trains will be reached.
- Pricing varies; inquire directly for details.
What’s Not Included
- Fuel, food, trail passes/registration, snowmobile gear/helmets, and snowmobile rentals are not included in tour prices.
Booking & Policies
- Booking deposit: 30% at time of booking (non-refundable).
- Balance due 24 hours before tour.
- Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice or no-shows are charged in full.
- Once the balance is paid, refunds are not provided, but dates may be moved within the same season (based on availability).
