Experience the sights, sounds, and skills of early Maine life during Heritage Days at the Maysville Museum on Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly event is part of Presque Isle's celebration of America’s Semiquicentennial and offers visitors a unique opportunity to connect with the traditions that helped shape our community.
Hosted by the Presque Isle Historical Society at the Maysville Museum, Heritage Days brings history to life through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and living history experiences that showcase the ingenuity and craftsmanship of Presque Isle's early settlers.
Visitors can watch skilled artisans demonstrate traditional crafts including blacksmithing, quilting, and spinning. A Civil War re-enactor will also be on site, offering a glimpse into the lives of soldiers and civilians during one of America's most significant historical periods. Guests of all ages are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and participate in a variety of hands-on activities. Try your hand at quill pen making, create a handkerchief doll, play 18th-centurychildren's games, churn butter, dip candles, and make your own beeswax candle to take home.
Whether you're a history enthusiast looking for a fun family outing, or simply curious about how everyday tasks were accomplished generations ago, Heritage Days offers an engaging and memorable experience for all ages.
The museum is located at 165 Caribou Road, Presque Isle. For more information including times of the various demonstrations, reach out to the Society at pihistoricalsociety@hotmail.com.
