Aroostook River Spring Run Off

Aroostook River Spring Run Off

Aroostook County's Most Beautiful Canoe Race

The Aroostook River Spring Runoff Canoe & Kayak Race celebrates the arrival of spring with one of northern Maine's signature paddling traditions. Held each May in Caribou, the 6.2-mile race follows the swollen waters of the Aroostook River from the Lower Lyndon Street Boat Launch to Forbes Pit in friendly Fort Fairfield, offering paddlers a fast-moving but approachable course through one of The County's most scenic river corridors. Open to both competitive racers and recreational paddlers, the event welcomes canoeists and kayakers of all skill levels. The race was revived in 2021 after nearly three decades, bringing a beloved local tradition back to the river.

Whether you're chasing a personal best or simply looking for an unforgettable day on the water, the Aroostook River Spring Runoff is a great way to experience spring in Maine's Aroostook County as it is most often referred to as ''the most beautiful canoe race in Aroostook County'. Spectators can cheer on racers at the start in Caribou and at the Fort Fairfield finish line while enjoying the excitement of highwater season, making this annual event a favorite for paddlers, families, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
