The Tour de la Vallee – Journey of Hope stands as an unrivaled, premier multi-sport tradition in the St. John River Valley, uniting outdoor adventure with a deeply profound charitable mission. Holding the distinction of being one of the region’s longest-running and most versatile community events, this massive gathering uniquely brings together bicyclists, runners, walkers, motorcyclists, and ATV enthusiasts all on the same day. Participants journey through the breathtaking, panoramic expanses of the St. John River Valley to support the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund, which provides crucial financial and lodging lifelines to local families fighting cancer. It represents the absolute height of community resilience and recreational unity, transforming a love for the northern Maine wilderness into a monumental beacon of hope.

What elevates this historic event to a legendary status among outdoor enthusiasts is its incredible diversity of fully supported routes designed for every age group and athletic discipline. Bicyclists can test their endurance on challenges ranging from scenic river rides to grueling 35-mile mountain bike treks on historic heritage trails, while off-road enthusiasts cruise the valley's sprawling ATV networks or join themed motorcycle memorial runs. Walkers and runners are equally catered to with meticulously mapped paths, all fully backed by a network of premium rest stops stocked with refreshments. By flawlessly blending high-energy trail sports, lighthearted youth theme rides, and profound community advocacy, the Tour de la Vallee delivers an unforgettable, comprehensive experience found nowhere else in New England.
The Edgar J. (Guy) Paradis Cancer Fund (a service of Northern Maine Medical Center), Fort Kent, Maine, is a non-profit venture that provides support services to families from the St. John Valley who have been afflicted with cancer. The Fund provides financial assistance for travel and lodging of family members so they can accompany the cancer patient when treatment away from the St. John valley is necessary.
